Represented the Government of China (Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) in Canada’s first market disruption case against barbeques from China before the Canadian International Trade Tribunal and successfully convinced the Minister of International Trade to not impose safeguard measures.

Represented the Government of China (Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), industry associations in China and Chinese Taipei and exporters in China and Chinese Taipei in a global safeguard case against bicycles and frames before the Canadian International Trade Tribunal and successfully convinced the Minister of International Trade to not impose safeguard measures.

Represented Tong Hwei in an antidumping and countervailing duty investigation against fasteners, assisted in the completion of questionnaires and secured a 1.39% dumping margin. Represented Tong Hwei in an injury inquiry relating to fasteners at the Canadian International Trade Tribunal and secured a no injury finding for stainless steel nuts and bolts.

Represented Shanghai Ben Yuan in an antidumping and countervailing duty investigation against fasteners, assisted in the completion of questionnaires and secured a 6.29% dumping margin. Represented Shanghai Ben Yuan in an injury inquiry relating to fasteners at the Canadian International Trade Tribunal and secured a termination of the case against stainless steel screws and a no injury finding for carbon steel and stainless steel nuts and bolts.

Provided advice to the Government of China (numerous departments) with respect to free trade agreement negotiations.

Provided advice to a leading Chinese company with respect to the negotiation of the Canada-China Foreign investment Promotion and Protection Agreement.

Selected by the Asian Development Bank, in connection with MOFCOM as the only Canadian legal counsel to prepare a comprehensive report on free trade agreements and economic integration. 

Provided advice to a major Chinese company with respect to the proper Canadian tariff classification of products to be sold to Canada.

Advised a Canadian company manufacturing goods in China in relation to the seizure of goods by China customs  in connection with alleged IP infringement.

Advised a Canadian manufacturer in relation to an alleged IP infringement/conterfeiting matter relating to goods from China.

Provided trade-related due diligence to a Chinese company in connection with raising capital in Canada.

Provided advice to numerous Chinese companies with respect to corporate governance required in order to be attractive to Canadian investors.

Provided advice to a major Canadian health network in the establishment of a joint venture in China.

Advised a Canadian company doing business in Asia about how to deal with a tax auditor who was seeking a bribe and successfully diffused the situation without payment of a bribe.

Conducted due diligence in connection with a significant transaction involving a Canadian company operating internationally in high-risk countries.

Invited by the Government of China to speak at a conference on Hainan Island in December 2001 about China’s Accession to the World Trade Organization.
